What Camera Gear You Need for Parties

You may not be a professional photographer, but you surely love taking photos of your family and friends whenever there’s an occasion to be celebrated. While most smartphones today are capable of taking good photos, you are now ready to up your game, so to speak, when it comes to your photography.

Don’t know where to start in choosing your next camera gear to bring along to parties? Here are a few tips for you.

1. Choose a small and lightweight camera.

For this purpose, you certainly would like to go the mirrorless route. That’s because DSLRs are typically bigger and bulkier, although camera makes are now releasing smaller ones. However, mirrorless cameras are smaller and easier to carry around. Sometimes you might not even notice that you have one hanging from your neck.

Also, mirrorless cameras are capable of taking great pictures just as DSLRs do. So it’s more of the weight thing here.

2. Choose a lens.

If you will be taking group shots (more people in a frame) then you definitely need a wide angle lens. A good wide angle lens would be 18mm or below as this will allow you to fit as many subjects within your shot. But if that’s not your thing and you want to be a bit more creative and personal with your shots, then a 50mm is always a good choice.

3. Get a flash.

Most parties are held indoors and more often than not the lighting will not be adequate for your photography. The quick solution to this is by using a flash on your camera. It doesn’t have to be an expensive and big flash, a small one will do. And don’t point it straight on people, learn to bounce the light coming from your flash off the wall or ceiling for better lighting and contrast.

If you don’t like using a flash, a solution would be using fast lens. Any lens that has an aperture of 2.8 and below is great for this purpose.

These are three of the best tips that you can get to improve your camera gear for your next parties. It doesn’t have to be expensive, it just needs to have the right things that you need for the job.
